Dried Lepidium Bunch (Penny Cress)
You might know Cress as a salad garnish, but if you let it grow tall and go to seed, it transforms into something spectacular. Lepidium sativum produces branched, wiry stems covered in hundreds of tiny, flat, coin-shaped seed pods.
Dried to a beautiful shade of warm green-bronze, these stems create a "cloud" of texture that is crisper and more defined than soft grasses. It is the perfect "filler" foliage, adding volume, airiness, and intricate detail to bouquets, buttonholes, and wreaths without shedding or drooping.

πΏ What is Dried Lepidium?
This is the mature seed stage of common Garden Cress (often called "Pepper Grass" by florists). We harvest the stems just as the seed pods form but before they shatter.
The Texture: The tiny pods are flat and papery. Because they are arranged on multiple fine branches, one single stem fills a lot of space, making it a very economical way to bulk out a vase.
π¨ Styling Ideas
Lepidium is the ultimate supporting act:
- Wreaths: It is sturdy and easy to wire. Use it to create a textured base for an autumn wreath before adding focal flowers.
- Buttonholes: Its small scale makes it perfect for wedding buttonholes. A sprig of Lepidium adds greenery and texture without wilting.
- The "Wild" Vase: Mix it with other "hedgerow" style dried flowers like Wheat and Poppy Heads for a natural, rustic look.

Perfect Dried Companions
Create a stunning everlasting bouquet by pairing Lepidium with bold focal flowers:
- πΈ Strawflowers (Helichrysum): The Colour Pop. The intricate, busy texture of the Lepidium is the perfect background to show off the bold, shiny petals of the Strawflowers.
- πΎ Dried Wheat: The Harvest Look. Combining the bronze-green of Lepidium with the golden yellow of Wheat creates a classic, warming autumn display.
β οΈ Scent Note
Dried Lepidium has a faint, earthy, peppery scent (it is a cress, after all!). This is natural and fades over time, but it adds to the rustic authenticity of the stems.
