Large ruffled blooms in vibrant rose-pink and pure white, one of the prettiest bicolours in the range, on long straight stems with the traditional scent. It holds an RHS Award of Garden Merit.
A bicolour does something in a bunch that a solid colour cannot. Ten stems of one pink is a block; ten stems of pink and white breaks up and reads as a bouquet with very little arranging, which is why this one turns up so often in cottage wedding work.
It is vigorous, wants a proper support and rich, well-manured ground, and it flowers from June through October if it is kept picked. Two things about the bicolour are worth knowing: the proportion of pink to white varies from flower to flower, so no two stems match exactly, and in a very hot summer the pink can wash out slightly towards the end of the season, though it is more stable than most.
Pick every flower as it opens, and never leave a pod to set.
